National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day highlights the importance of education, prevention, testing, and treatment for women and girls — and the need to ensure these services are accessible to everyone.
While progress has been made, HIV continues to affect women nationwide, especially women of color. Expanding access to compassionate, equitable care remains essential to improving outcomes and strengthening community health.
At Little River Medical Center, we provide accessible, responsive HIV services designed around women’s needs. From prevention and early diagnosis to ongoing treatment and support, our care teams walk alongside women at every stage.
Why HIV Awareness for Women and Girls Matters
Women face unique HIV risk factors, including limited access to care, stigma, and social or economic barriers. Many women are diagnosed late, which can delay treatment and increase health risks.
Routine HIV testing is a vital part of preventive care. Knowing your status empowers you to take control of your health, access treatment early if needed, and protect yourself and others.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that HIV testing, prevention tools such as PrEP, and consistent medical care significantly improve health outcomes for women living with or at risk for HIV.
